A couple of weeks ago I posted about a fantastic animated short film, World of Tomorrow, that had gained an Oscar nomination for this year. Given that the Oscars were last week (yes I am running a week behind), and World of Tomorrow unfortunately didn’t win, I thought I would post another amazing animated short film that was also nominated (and won) at the Oscars in 2012.
Paperman is a Disney short film, that premiered before Wreck-it Ralph in cinemas. It is groundbreaking due to a new technique that combines hand-drawn animation, with computer generated ones. There is no doubt that the animation in Paperman is breathtaking, but it is the story that is really remarkable. A love story with no words, the film follows a man who has a ‘moment’ with a fellow commuter, and then tries to gain her attention, when he spots her in the building opposite later on, with a fleet of paper planes.
If you haven’t seen this already, you’re in for a treat.
