This weeks short film, Melville, a tender portrait of a man facing an internal struggle, premiered at last year’s SXSW festival and is set to become a television series.
The protagonist, played fantastically by Rodney “F.Stokes” has been diagnosed with cancer and is struggling to bring himself to tell his friends and family. Instead, he get’s on with day-to-day life and throws himself into his work to try and find an outlet. When this fails to soothe him, he joins his friend at a hip-hop night and seizes the opportunity to release his tension.
Despite the subject matter, the cinematography is warm, and paired with the soulful music, it shows the film in a tender and emphatic light. A truly beautiful film.
